I was a little concerned that the small but very enthusiastic crowd (how much caffeine had they all had exactly??) might prove distracting for this Manchester Grammar School band. I needn’t have worried; right from the funky, clean, jazzy guitar lines of ‘Upside Down’ through the driving rhythm section of ‘Weekend Rockstar’, Slash-influenced riff of ‘Any Attempts’ to the triumphant ‘Nigel the Walrus’, this was a cracking rock set elaborated with some original drumming and very advanced lead guitar indeed.
Melodies could have been sharper and occasionally they could have been a bit tighter as a group, but basically it was an energetic yet focused show demonstrating that The Truth About Lloyd are definitely a cut above the average school band. Well done.
