I still find it hard to place these guys on any particular shelf. However on the basis of the initially slightly surreal, bluesy, moody guitar-orientated sound that became gradually rockier, I wouldn’t say that this is a bad thing. I suppose the instantly really striking aspect of this band was the big, low-pitched, unusual vocals of the lead singer – made all the more surprising by the fact that he didn’t look as though that kind of voice was going to come out of him. ‘Silver City Truths’ saw a melancholy tone merged with loud, theatrical vocals, and a nice drawling trumpet line in ‘Shadowlands’ blended well with it’s intriguing, minor chord progression and fluttering yet driving drumming in the final third.
Songs did blend into one another a little more than one would have wanted, but overall an interesting sound and a good show.
