Right, Section 6 put on a very good show at Academy 3 and the audience’s enjoyment was evident throughout. The main rock tone progressed from the great bluesy hook of ‘Silhouettes and Shadows’, through mellowed notes in ‘Whispers’ to a heavier sound and speed increase in ‘Critical Acclaim’. Add the fact that the whole set was peppered with some really nice solos and held together by brilliant group energy, and you have a strong set in your hands.
However, I sense that they can do better. There were no gaping holes in their performance, the range of their lead vocalist was excellent – handling softer sections and impassioned rock shrieking with ease – and they appear to have an impressive range of rock and metal influences, but there were moments mid-set when hooks and pace felt a little indistinctive and the songs lost their impact. Maybe if they produced more songs that really hit the mark (like ‘Can You See’) they could really catch on. Lets keep our eyes open.
