What a great start to the night! A couple of chords in, the first words that came to mind were ‘punk rock’. And yes, elements of Offspring and Green Day circa ‘American Idiot’ did prevail at various points (most notably in energetic opener ‘Certain Things’). However, with their amalgamation of spirited, up-tempo rock, metally moments and bluesy licks, it would appear that Chaos Theory have something else to offer.
This was a set with no unnecessary fuss but enough going on to make it interesting. Sound, convincing bar chord sequences and sharp, tight drumming were elaborated by some really nice guitar bends and well-crafted solos – with an especially groovy introductory lick and fantastic swaggering bass in ‘Bad Dream’. Furthermore, the whole thing was tied together by an infectious sense of camaraderie and a confident front man who improved throughout the set.
Very good performance indeed, a darn good time was had by all; well done.
