Fake Kings

Salford-based indie band, sounding a lot like the Arctic Monkeys. In fact, pretty much sound exactly the same as the Artic Monkeys, from the guitar sound to the vocals.

Write some stuff for the indie club. That pretty much sums up what this band want to achieve. There’s nothing ground-breaking, nothing challenging here at all; just song songs which have clearly been written with the Arctic Monkeys and the Libertines in mind, which isn’t a bad thing, it just doesn’t lend much to creativity. Laddish and confident, the Fake Kings strummed their way through songs about everything their gods have ever sung about, and from ‘Turning off the Programme’ through to ‘Everything’s not Nothing’, probably the strongest two songs, they did not deviate once from this pattern. To the extent that by the end it was difficult to pick stand outs, because everything sounded pretty much the same. Music to dance to yes, but not music to marvel at.
